Fruit Bearing

Devotions:

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Matthew 7:17‭-‬20 KJV

The truth that Jesus is teaching is that what is in our heart will manifest in our actions. We can put up a facade for only so long. Fruit takes time to grow so we must be patient. We watch how someone acts and what they say long enough the truth about their character will soon manifest. They may seem almost like angels but something in us tells us that there is something amiss. We need to pay attention to the uneasiness we feel. An evil tree cannot bring forth good fruit.

We can also see this in terms of a plan of action. If there is any evil, dishonesty or perversion in the plan, it will not succeed ultimately. God‘s wisdom is pure and undefined. If there produces strife or dishonesty then it is the enemies plan.

One other thing is our root has changed. We have been made the righteousness of God. Where in the Old Covenant they still had the sin nature so they would still produce a certain amount of evil fruit we have been given God‘s nature and God’s character. By His life within us we will produce good fruit. As we grow in the things of God more and more we will produce more and more good fruit. In John 15 Jesus tells us to produce fruit we must stay connected to the vine which is Jesus. Romans 7:4 tells us that we are no longer connected to the law but we are connected to Jesus in order that we might bear fruit unto God. We are a good tree programmed to bear good fruit.
