“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.” John 14:6-7 KJV
Jesus is the door to the Father. Even in the Old Testament they could not reach the Father because they were blocked out by their sinful nature. Jesus makes three statements here. First He is the way to the Father because He is the sin carrier. He took the sins of the whole world and paid the full price for them and then offered free redemption for the whole world. Because Jesus bore all of our sins upon Himself in exchange He gave us His perfection before the Father so that we could, without timidity, shame or guilt boldly approach the Father and be assured of a positive audience before the Creator of the universe, our Father.
Secondly, Jesus said that He was the truth or the reality. If we want to know what God really looks like we do not look at the Old Testament. Their view was warped by sin. They had a twisted perspective. As we study Jesus and His life we begin to get a clear picture of what our Father God looks like and what He acts like. We also get a picture of what God’s rule is like and His kingdom, a kingdom of love. Anything that tells us differently is a lie from the enemy.
Thirdly, Jesus proclaimed that He is the life. He is the manifestation of the life of God. That is what He came to give us in exchange for our sins. Because we have received His life we, our spirits, are perfectly in one accord with our Father God. As Jesus is one with the Father, so are we one with Jesus and our Father. We are no longer orphans but we belong to the family of God. We are of the same essence as Jesus. We have His life as our new life.
