Grace to Know God

Devotions:
James says that we have not because we ask not. Many times we are asking for the wrong things. Instead of asking for God's directions in life we are asking for things, toys. Moses ask for three things in the book of Exodus. This first was for grace to understand his way.
“Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.”
Exodus 33:13 KJV
He wanted to know God more, not about God but to know Him. Unless we ask God to direct us and to reveal Himself to us most of the time we will not understand when He is trying to lead us. And if we do not ask Him to know Him intimately we will not know Him intimately. Moses valued God's guidance because that is what brought the Israelites and himself safely out of Egypt. Moses acknowledged that he had found grace or here favor in the sight of God and he asked for direction that he might wisely walk in God's way and in walking down God's path he would find more grace, favor. Knowing the ways of God are what produce favor with God. When we go our own way is when we get into trouble. Moses asked for guidance that he would walk in God's way that he might know God better. Even though Moses was under the old covenant with limited righteousness, he could know God on a certain level. We who are in the new covenant with unlimited righteousness can know God at a much deeper level but we must ask even as Moses asked.
