Devotions:
In the New Covenant God promised that He would be our God and we would be His people. We have seen that means that He sees ahead and supplies, He heals us, He leads us, He is our wholeness, He is our shepherd.
The next name that He has given us as a covenant name that reveals what He longs to do for us is Yehwah Tsidkenu, the Lord our righteousness.
“'Behold, days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will fulfill the good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell in safety; and this is the name by which she will be called: the LORD is our righteousness.'” Jeremiah 33:14-16 NASB
Righteousness means the ability and posistion before the Almighty God without any sense of sin, guilt, shame or failure. In our redemption God accomplished this through Jesus. All our sin, guilt, shame, and failure were laid upon Jesus on the cross and He took the full punishment for them all.
“But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” Romans 3:21-26 NASB
God in making us righteous, just, was righteous in doing it for He justly dealt with our sins and the sins of the whole world. This is our message to the world, quit rejecting God, He has more than adequately paid for your sins and is waiting for you to be restored to Him.
Our standing before the Father is secured in Jesus. He became our unrighteousness and paid the full price. When the full price was paid, He was declared righteous again with our righteousness. As long as Jesus has standing before the Father, so do we. He is our righteousness.
“who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.”
Romans 4:25 NKJV
