“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."” John 16:33 NASB
Salvation is not the absence of trouble in your life. Jesus said that in the world, that is where we live, we would have tribulation. Some think that when they hear the message of faith that all their trial and troubles will be over. But that is not what Jesus said. It is not that all our troubles are over but that in Jesus we can over come them because Jesus over came the world. He lived free from all sin even when severely tempted, he over came. That is the same life that He gave us at His resurrection. We died with Him, we were buried with Him and we rose with Him unto newness of life. Then we were seated with Him at the right hand of the Father in the place of authority, honor and victory. His resurrection life has made us new creations in Him but we are still facing the on slaught of the enemy.
Jesus spoke the victory to us so that we would have peace. Peace is more than the absence of conflict. If that were true that peace is the absence of conflict then He would not have said that we would still have tribulation in the world. Peace is wholeness, nothing lacking, nothing broken. We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 5:1. That means that through Jesus, because we are in Him and He is in us, we have a whole relationship with our Father, nothing lacking in the relationship and nothing broken in the relationship. This is how we are world overcomes because of our relationship with our Father not based on our actions but on the actions and life of Jesus. Because of that when trouble comes your way you can speak to it in authority and as you believe it will obey.
